The Youth Arts Coalition (YAC) Solo and Ensemble (S&E) Festival is open to all students in grades 6-12.  Students in grades 4 and 5 can also participate if they have at least one year playing experience.  There are three types of events:  honors track solo, clinic track solo, and ensemble.   You can see the full rules here, or see below for a brief summary of each type of event.

Honors Track Solo:

Soloists in grades 9-12 may choose this track.  The proficiency score is comprised of a score for the solo (up to 50 points), scales (up to 25 points) and sight reading (25 points).  Please see the full rules for specifics on the scales and sight reading.

Clinic Track Solo:

All eligible students may choose this track.  The student is assigned a rating (I, II, III, IV or V) based on a solo performance only - no scales or sight reading component.

Ensemble:

All eligible students may participate in an ensemble.  Like the Clinic Track Solo, there are no scales or sight reading for ensembles.
